Off to uni
We don’t want to put any pressure on you, but starting at University is one of life’s great rites of passage. It’s an incredibly exciting time, all the promise of a completely new beginning and for most, the first time living away from home. All this can feel daunting. However, there are lots of things you can do to ease yourself into University life.
The early bird
Try to get to the halls of residence at the earliest date you’re allowed. This will give you time to settle in, but also provide opportunities to begin forging friendships with the other newbies. Pluck up the courage to strike up a conversation with other students moving in. We suggest bringing a few packs of chocolate biscuits with you and some tea to get the unpacking done and the ice-broken.
Feathering your new nest
Tempting as it may be to just dump your boxes in a corner and head out to the student union with your new friends, getting your room in order will automatically make you feel more at home. Fill your new home with plenty of things to make you comfortable and also some things to remind you of home to diminish any homesickness.
Fill some frames with photos of your nearest and dearest and dot them around your room to make sure there’s always a friendly face to smile out at you!
Top tip: there are never enough hangers, so make sure you stock up beforehand!
If you’re moving out of halls and into a flat or house of your own, you’ll need a few more things, but not to fear, we’re on hand with everything you need!
Student life is fun and full of excitement, but there’s no getting away from the fact that you are there to study (sorry!). Your own workspace is an essential and a desk in your bedroom is the perfect way to focus on your essay writing away from any noisy flatmates. From lightweight laptop desks or foldaway desks to larger workstations complete with drawers, we have a fantastic selection in stock. Our colourful fold-able chairs are the perfect option to those who need to save space. Buy a few and bring them out when your friends come over.
In the kitchen
Student houses aren’t generally known for their beautiful interior design but we can help it feel like home! Our patterned crockery is a way to brighten up any kitchen. Mix and match for a funky look, or go for coordination with a matching set. If you’re more minimalist in your tastes our white crockery range has everything you need! Don’t forget your cutlery and utensils, it’s not like being at home with a choice to hand.
Kitchen storage canisters look lovely on the worktop and are a great way to keep tea, coffee and sugar from going stale. As a student prepare to eat a lot of toast - it’s quick, cheap and filling: the perfect snack! Keep your loaf fresh for longer with a bread bin.
If this is your first time living away from home, you’ll be surprised at how quickly your home can become messy. Stay on top of the housework and keep everything spick and span to minimise health hazards and infestations (we’re not joking). Mop up any spills immediately with our microfibre cloths and make sure you hoover every so often to stop the dust from settling.
Letting your hair down
One of the best things about living away from home is the ability to have parties whenever you want! Our cocktail glassware is great for those big nights in. Why not impress your friends with your mixology skills and shake up drinks like a pro with our 5 piece cocktail set? The perfect way to get the party started and cheaper than heading to a bar.
We wish all our University bound customers the best of luck and happy studies for the next few years. We’d love to see your Rinkit products in their new homes so be sure to tag us on your social media posts!Explore our full homeware collection here.
